LEWISTON, ME – Spurwink will officially open the Lewiston Crisis Center on September 15, 2026, at 10 am, expanding access to behavioral health crisis services for individuals and families in Androscoggin County and surrounding communities. Located at 1155 Lisbon Street in Lewiston, the new center will provide immediate, compassionate support for people experiencing mental health, substance use, and any other urgent behavioral health needs. The center will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Spurwink received a $3.5M contract award from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services to support capital costs and ongoing operational costs of the center.
The Lewiston Crisis Center offers a voluntary alternative to emergency department visits and other crisis response settings. Individuals seeking support will have access to crisis assessments by trained professionals, medication management, non-acute nursing services, peer support, and short-term stabilization in a welcoming, recovery-oriented environment.
The center builds on Spurwink’s experience operating Maine’s first crisis receiving center in Portland and represents an important expansion of Maine’s behavioral health crisis response system. The model is designed to help individuals access care quickly and safely in a less restrictive setting while connecting them to ongoing services and supports.
“Timely access to trauma-informed care is essential for any Mainer experiencing a behavioral health crisis and the receiving center is a critical resource for the Lewiston community,” said Sarah Squirrell, Director of the Office of Behavioral Health. “DHHS is proud to partner with Spurwink to establish one of three crisis receiving centers here in Maine.”
Earlier this summer, Spurwink welcomed community members, healthcare providers, first responders, local leaders, and community partners to a series of open house events at the facility. The events provided an opportunity for attendees to tour the center, meet staff, and learn about the services that will soon be available to individuals and families throughout the region.

The Lewiston Crisis Center will serve teens and adults ages 14 and older and provide crisis stabilization, observation, assessment, intervention, peer support, clinical care, and connections to ongoing services for recovery and wellness. The center is designed to promote safety, dignity, and recovery while helping reduce unnecessary emergency department utilization and law enforcement involvement.
