This fall, Spurwink has worked hard to prepare for upcoming state and local elections by raising awareness among legislators about issues impacting Maine families. Our goal is to elevate behavioral health and community service priorities with policymakers and those seeking public office.
Candidate Meet-and-Greets
In recent weeks, Spurwink President and CEO Eric Meyer has participated in a series of candidate and legislator meet-and-greet events across Maine. Organized by the Maine Association for Community Service Providers (MACSP), these events provided valuable opportunities to discuss issues affecting individuals, families, and service providers throughout the state.
In September, Eric represented Spurwink at events in South Portland at Port Resources, Augusta at Woodfords Family Services, and Brunswick at the Independence Association. He also took part in an event in Auburn at John F. Murphy Homes.
Collectively, these gatherings brought together candidates, legislators and community providers. Approximately 30 key figures attended each event, including at least 10 legislators.
Alliance for Addiction and Mental Health Services
Spurwink leadership attended the Alliance for Addiction and Mental Health Services annual leadership retreat in September. The Alliance is a statewide association of community behavioral health providers working to ensure Mainers have access to recovery-oriented care.
With the Alliance, Eric Meyer also participated in a roundtable conversation for legislators and candidates on behavioral health, hosted by NAMI Maine.
Legislative Priorities
We continue to work actively with partners to identify priority bills and policy issues for the upcoming Maine legislative session, which begins in January.
