Representatives from Spurwink’s ShifaME program recently had the opportunity to introduce a large audience to Trauma Systems Therapy adapted for Refugees (TSTR). Sarah Ferriss, Director of Refugee Services, Heidi Harrison, Associate Director of Refugee Services, and Siad Shaleh, Cultural Broker, presented at the Annual Child Development and Behavior Conference hosted by the Edmund N. Ervin Pediatric Center at Colby College. The audience consisted largely of medical and mental health professionals with the focus of the event being Evidence Based Practices serving vulnerable youth.
TSTR is a promising practice and innovation being provided at Spurwink in the ShifaME program in the cities of Biddeford, Portland, Westbrook and Lewiston. The ShifaME team is always eager to talk about this work, as they currently serve over 150 refugee and immigrant children in our communities.
