Joseph Graham’s journey to becoming a clinical social worker is a story of resilience, dedication, and a deep commitment to helping others. After many years working as an Ed-Tech at Spurwink School in Auburn, Maine, Joseph discovered his passion for supporting children with behavioral challenges. Collaborating closely with teachers and clinical social workers inspired him to pursue his Master of Social Work (MSW) and ultimately become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
Joseph’s private practice is based in the Lewiston/Auburn area, where he primarily works with elementary students in school settings. His approach is holistic—partnering with families, teachers, and team members to help each child achieve their goals. Since becoming independently licensed in 2013, Joseph has drawn on his extensive background, including his earlier role as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (since 2009). This experience gives him unique insight into supporting families affected by substance use disorders and understanding the impact these challenges can have on children.
A Natural Fit with Spurwink Affiliates
Joining Spurwink Affiliates in 2017 felt like a natural progression for Joseph, given his years of experience. He describes his time as an affiliate as overwhelmingly positive, noting that “Spurwink Affiliates always keep my work up to date and provide the tech and clinical support I need. They respond quickly to any questions and help resolve issues efficiently.”
Joseph has witnessed Spurwink’s evolution firsthand, noting improvements in technology and platforms that make his work easier and more effective. These advancements, combined with a supportive network, have reinforced his commitment to the organization.
Reflecting on his own life, Joseph shares “I grew up with many challenges and could have gone in a different direction. Spurwink showed me I could be more than where I came from. My experiences became my strength, helping me support others who face similar misfortunes. I want to thank Spurwink for all they’ve done for me.”
