As a community bank without shareholders, Kennebec Savings Bank is dedicated to serving the Maine community. Part of their work includes donating 10% of annual profits to nonprofit organizations across the state of Maine, including Spurwink.
“The work Spurwink does in the community is essential and unmatched,” shared Tommy Johnson, Kennebec Savings Bank Community Giving and Engagement Manager. “Our financial support of their work allows the people and families that need these services to receive the care they deserve.”
Expanding Access to Care
Kennebec Savings Bank’s support helps Spurwink expand access to critical behavioral health and educational services for Mainers in need. Johnson noted that one of the central goals at Kennebec Savings Bank is “to enhance the communities it serves through unparalleled support.” Their values of service, teamwork, and community—mirroring Spurwink’s commitment to responding to community needs—all play an important part in fulfilling that goal.
When asked about Kennebec Savings Bank’s community philosophy, three words came to mind for Johnson: “agnostic, unmatched, and authentic.” They support nonprofit organizations that better their local communities, both financially and through volunteer service. Across nearly 200 employees, Kennebec Savings Bank boasts 7,000 hours of volunteering for nonprofits in Maine. According to Johnson, “this equates to almost a full work week of volunteering for every KSB employee.”
Additionally, their annual contributions to nonprofits, about $1.5M, make up a significant portion of the total contributions by Maine banks.
