Building Hope: A Community Film Event to End Homelessness

On Friday, October 24, 2025, Spurwink joined community partners for a special viewing of Building Hope: Ending Homelessness in Maine at East Auburn Baptist Church.

Building Hope, directed by Richard Kane and produced by Melody Lewis-Kane, shines a compassionate light on the realities of homelessness in Maine. Through deeply personal stories, the film explores the challenges faced by individuals and families, and highlights the hope that emerges when communities come together to create solutions. The documentary has been praised for its honesty, dignity, and inspiring message that change is possible when we work together.

Community Collaboration

This event is made possible through collaboration with organizations including Downeast Community Partners, Community Housing of Maine (CHOM), Project Support You (PSY), Auburn Drop-in Center, the City of Auburn, and Spurwink. The film is free to attend, and all are welcome. Our goal is to open doors, spark conversation, and make the greatest impact possible for those experiencing homelessness in our region.

Panel Discussion

Following the screening, a panel of local leaders and advocates discussed the film and the ongoing work to address homelessness in Maine. Panelists include:

The panel was moderated by Catherine Ryder, Spurwink’s Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives, who brings deep expertise in trauma-informed care and community collaboration.
