Davis Family Foundation Grant Helps Purchase AI Documentation Tool

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is quickly being incorporated in many areas of life, including business, sports, and medicine. Spurwink’s first priority is protecting the privacy and well-being of our clients, but we are also interested in how AI tools can be used to improve mental healthcare.

Last month, the Davis Family Foundation generously contributed a grant to help purchase an AI documentation tool for our clinical staff. Clinical documentation is important, and legally required, but takes significant time from clients in need. This tool will drastically reduce documentation time, provide individualized clinical recommendations, and increase clinician availability, enhancing the healthcare Spurwink provides. Key facts:

  • This AI system is the most popular documentation tool in behavioral health, used by organizations in 45 states.
  • With this tool, organizations can reduce their documentation time by up to 60%, saving 5.2 hours per staff per week, significantly increasing the mental healthcare available in Maine.
  • This AI tool has also been trained on a large body of behavioral health data, which it uses to provide individualized client recommendations during documentation (e.g., connect them to disability services).
  • Documentation is time- and energy-consuming, and this tool will reduce burnout in an already-taxed clinical workforce.
  • This service will help Maine residents statewide, including York, Cumberland, Oxford, Androscoggin, Sagadahoc, Kennebec, and Penobscot Counties.

AI healthcare tools are relatively new but are being rapidly integrated within medicine and other areas of life. Fortunately, with generous funding from the Davis Family Foundation, we will be able to leverage these new AI technologies to increase mental healthcare in Maine.
