Bright Lights and Gratitude

By April 10, 2020April 15th, 2020Blog, COVID 19 Related Blogs

The world has had to pause, reset, and rethink in order to function effectively during this time of uncertainty. What’s been revealed are the bright lights that shine among us. Today, we wanted to share some of those positive nuggets with you.

Round the Clock Care

Our amazing staff are working around the clock to care for clients. In some instances, some have decided not to go home between shifts, but rather sleep at a separate Spurwink house, in order to protect our clients and their families. These staff are on the front lines, and we are  humbled by their caring and dedication.

A Good Neighbor in Casco

One of the adult clients in our Casco house uses a hospital bed. Last week, the bed broke. We know how in-demand these items are right now. Spurwink caregivers acted swiftly to find a replacement, and after looking high and low, a partner agency – and literal neighbor – was able to provide a bed that same day. The agency could have a need for that bed in the future, but saw this immediate community need and addressed it, even taking the care to deliver to Spurwink’s residence. Now that’s a good neighbor!

The Power of Telehealth

Recently, a parent shared with us the immediate impact that a Spurwink telehealth session had with their child. He said that the session created a noticeable uplifted disposition for their child and, ultimately, their family.

Kindness is a Chocolate Bunny

Children in our residential programs will have an even sweeter Easter this Sunday. Dean’s Sweets has donated 200 chocolate bunnies, making life a bit brighter for the children in Spurwink’s care.

Foundations Jump in with Support

Our foundation partners have shifted quickly to provide emergency support to Spurwink. Our grateful thanks to Virginia Hodgkins Somers Foundation, Maine Health Access Foundation, Maine Community Foundation,  and The Celia Lipton Farris and Victor W. Farris Foundation who have supported Spurwink’s ongoing programming and COVID-19 efforts.
We are extremely grateful to the amazing community of which we are a part. We are all here for each other and we will get through this. Together, we are Spurwink!
