Spurwink is proud to announce and celebrate Team Chelsea 2019! Eight athletes and one Student Assistant Coach had the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics of Maine events including Regional competitions in Farmingdale and State level competitions in Orono, Maine. Spurwink athletes ranged in age from 11 to 19 years old and participated in a variety of Track and Field events including the 50 Meter Dash, Softball Throw, Standing Long Jump and 100m Walk. At the State level, Demitri earned a gold medal in both the Standing Long Jump and Softball Throw, while Peter earned silver in both Softball Throw and Standing Long Jump. At the Regional level Team Chelsea shined with a total of seven 1st place finishers. Aden placed 1st in the 50 Meter Dash, Nick placed 2nd in the 50 Meter Dash and Alex placed 2nd in the 50 Meter Dash. Alissa took home a 1st place ribbon for the 100 Meter Walk, while Austin placed 1st in both the 100 Meter Walk and 50 Meter Dash. Michael stole the show, placing 1st in all three events that he participated in.
All of the participants in Special Olympics from Team Chelsea made a unique and meaningful contribution. The team recognized their athletes at a school-wide awards ceremony to pay special tribute to Aden for being a helper at every practice, Demitri for having the drive and motivation to gain skills in all of his events, Alissa and Peter for being the seniors of Team Chelsea and Keagan for being a dedicated Assistant Coach.
