Endowment Plans Help Meet Ongoing Community Needs
“Sometimes leadership is planting trees under whose shade you’ll never sit.”
– Jennifer Granholm

When current needs are so pressing, it can be hard to the look to the future. But that is exactly what leaders need to do if they want to maximize an organization’s long-term impact.
LEARN ABOUT SPURWINK SERVICES

Spurwink's Opioid Health Home helps those struggling with opioid misuse
Spurwink recently started an Opioid Health Home, a medication assisted treatment program for individuals with an opioid use disorder. We sat down with Ben Strick, Spurwink’s Director of Adult Behavioral Health, to find out more about the program and what Spurwink is doing to address the opioid crisis in Maine.
GRANTS IN ACTION

Inaugural Grant from United Way of Greater Portland to Launch Opioid Treatment Program
Spurwink is pleased to announce it has received an inaugural grant from United Way of Greater Portland to support the launch of an opioid treatment program that will address the critical need for opioid use disorder treatment in Cumberland County. The Medication Assisted Treatment program at Spurwink Adult Behavioral Health will provide treatment to 50 clients in its first year and serve adults with co-occurring serious mental illness and opioid substance use disorder.

A Look at What We've Accomplished: KeyBank Foundation Grant
We often share the good news of receiving grants and what they will be used for, but this time around we’re sharing work that has been accomplished. We’re taking a look at the KeyBank Foundation Grant, and how it has allowed us to implement sensory and motor activities, provide a place for children to play outside, and train staff. And, there’s still more to come!
DONOR SPOTLIGHT

Scarborough Rotary Club Helps Two Families
The Scarborough Rotary is dedicated to their community and passionate about service. Recently, they made an impact with Spurwink clients and their families in Scarborough. Though a bike and a little back to school shopping, they helped bring smiles to Spurwink clients, taking a little worry off the plates of two families.
CORPORATE PARTNER HIGHLIGHT

Foreside Financial Group
Spurwink is delighted to highlight Foreside Financial Group as our Corporate Partner this month. Foreside has been generously supporting Spurwink for over five years and shares similar values of embracing innovation and being dedicated to their clients enabling them to reach their goals.
COMMON GOOD

You Can #BeTheDifference For Your Loved Ones
"Mental health can be hard to talk about, and sometimes it’s hardest to talk to those we are closest to, like friends and family members. In the United States, almost half of all adults will experience a mental illness during their lifetime. That means you or someone in your family might face a mental health challenge. And because of stigma around mental health, they might feel ashamed to talk about it with you and you might not know how to respond."

Read the National Council for Behavioral Health's newsletter for tips and resources on to have conversations with your loved ones.
