FOSTER CARE
Spurwink offers an array of services to support foster families and children in foster care. Beginning with the exploration of becoming a foster family and continuing throughout the placement of children in the home, we provide information, guidance, education, and, with Treatment Foster Care, in home supportive services. Our comprehensive approach includes A Family for ME, recruiting resource families for foster/adoptive care statewide; the Resource Parent Care Team, providing quick access to information and referrals to foster families; Treatment Foster Care, partnering with families that foster children whose behavioral needs require ongoing, more intensive support; and the Adoption Matching Program, pairing licensed families with children awaiting adoption.

ADOPTION MATCHING PROGRAM (AMP)
The Adoption Matching Program (AMP) works alongside DHHS to pair licensed families with children awaiting adoption. AMP utilizes both a data-driven software system demonstrated to improve outcomes of children in care as well as an intake process that recognizes each family’s unique composition, experiences, and needs.

Throughout the matching process, coordinators bring together adoptive parents, youth in care, caseworkers, and therapeutic providers in regular meetings to coordinate support services, understand trauma-related behaviors, and brainstorm parenting strategies to better meet the needs of children transitioning into permanency. Monthly virtual trainings and a facilitated support group are also offered by AMP, with the combined goals of building community and expanding trauma-informed parenting skills. Services are available to all licensed foster and adoptive families throughout the State of Maine who are approved by the Resource Unit Supervisors.
