PORTLAND, ME – Spurwink is pleased to announce a new Board Member and four new members to its Senior Leadership Team. Jeff D. Emerson is newly appointed to Spurwink’s Board of Directors; Bart Beattie joins Spurwink as its new Chief Operating Officer; Eric Campbell has been promoted to Vice President of Educational Services; Rebecca Patkus has been promoted to Vice President of Regional Outpatient and Community Services; and Ben Strick has been promoted to Vice President of Adult Behavioral Health.
Jeff D. Emerson is President of NorthEnd Group LLC, a healthcare services, technology consulting and advisory company, and has served in executive-level roles for decades. Emerson has served on the Board of Directors of the Baltimore Symphony, the House of Ruth, Hospice of Prince George’s and NYLCare/Mid-Atlantic. He is a Trustee of Bowdoin College. He graduated, with honors, from Bowdoin College with an AB in Theology and he has an MSTM in computer and information systems from American University.
Prior to joining Spurwink in 2023, Bart Beattie, LCSW, was the Chief Operating Officer of Pathways Human Services, a national behavioral healthcare organization with services in 24 states. Prior to that, Beattie worked in a variety of clinical and leadership roles in several behavioral healthcare organizations in Maine. A licensed Clinical Social Worker, he received his bachelor’s degree in anthropology from the University of Oregon and his master’s degree in social work from the University of New England.
Eric Campbell, MS, BCBA, has been with Spurwink for 24 years, beginning as an Educational Technician at the then Cummings Program (now Glickman Academy), and has worked in various positions including Special Education Teacher, provided training and consultation services to local school districts, and then moving to administrative roles, most recently the Director of Educational Services. During his time at Spurwink, Campbell received his master’s degree in special education and became a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst.
Rebecca Patkus, LCSW, first joined Spurwink in 2005 as a Public School Counselor. After leaving Spurwink for a short time, she returned to Outpatient and Community Services leadership roles for the next 14 years. Patkus is a graduate of Kenyon College and University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration, and her professional experiences range from case management to counseling to managing various programs that serve children, adults, and families.
Ben Strick, LCSW, has been with Spurwink for 17 years, beginning as a Case Manager in the Juvenile Risk Reduction Program. He received his undergraduate degree from Bates College, and his master’s degree in social work from the University of New England. Strick has worked across Spurwink serving children, adults, and families, and helped design and implement the State’s first 24/7 crisis receiving center. He was appointed by the Governor to the State Board of Social Work Licensure where he serves as the Complaint Officer, and by the Attorney General to serve as a member on the Deadly Force Review Panel.
