Spurwink has a strong presence in Augusta during this 132nd Maine Legislative Session, advocating for issues that are important to our clients, staff, and programs. Spurwink has already provided testimony on issues that impact Spurwink and will continue to advocate for our community.
We will be participating in upcoming events at the State House, including the 2025 Nonprofit Day at the State House hosted by Maine Association of Nonprofits, and Behavioral Health Day hosted by the Alliance for Addiction and Mental Health Services (a.k.a. The Alliance, an organization for which Eric Meyer serves at Board Chair).
Spurwink is also in support of a bill that will help to stabilize services and expand access to behavioral health care in public school settings, through a grant program within the Department of Education. Currently, this bill is noted as LR 2343 An Act to Provide Grants to Schools That Contract for Behavioral and Mental Health Services.
In addition, Eric Meyer testified in support of the Governor’s Supplemental Budget, LD 209, which addressees the $118 million MaineCare funding shortfall, ensuring that providers can continue to receive timely payments, maintain stability, and deliver high-quality care to our communities without interruption. In the testimony, he also requests that the committees include funding in the biennial budget to allow the full implementation of the state’s Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) program, a program in which Spurwink is deeply committed to.
