Jonathan Shumeyko, LCPC

Jon earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Boston College and his Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a Substance Use focus from the University of Southern Maine. He is licensed to practice as a mental health counselor as well as an alcohol and drug counselor in the State of Maine. Jon’s main areas of expertise are in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of co-occurring disorders (both mental health and substance use issues). Jon has experience providing individual and group therapy to treat problems such as trauma/PTSD, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, anger management identity development, and life transitions.

Jon utilizes a number of evidence based counseling approaches and techniques including: cognitive behavioral therapy, person centered therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution focused brief therapy. He has received additional training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Trauma Informed Care. Jon views counseling as a collaborative process between the client(s) and the therapist. His role is to assist individuals in sorting out the feelings, beliefs and behaviors that are affecting their particular situation. He provides feedback and information that can help with the process as the client(s) work toward achieving goals.
