Meet Ashley Boyle, a spirited Spurwink volunteer serving on the Development Committee and chairing this year’s Humanitarian on April 8th. Ashley was encouraged to volunteer through her position at Bangor Savings Bank, who have been a long-time corporate partner with Spurwink. Ashley’s dedication has been instrumental in sharing Spurwink’s mission and impact. For information on the Humanitarian or to purchase tickets, visit spurwink.org/humanitarian.

What are your responsibilities as a volunteer at Spurwink? As a volunteer at Spurwink, I serve on the Development Committee, which focuses on sharing the organization’s mission and impact within our community. I strive to create long-lasting ties with new people and organizations. Additionally, I am chairing this year’s Humanitarian event on April 8th, which serves as our annual fundraiser. This event is crucial for raising funds to support Spurwink’s critical work throughout the year.

How do you spend your time outside volunteering? I am a Relationship Manager at Bangor Savings Bank. As a Relationship Manager, I assist individuals and small businesses in achieving their financial goals. My role involves building strong relationships with clients and providing tailored financial solutions to meet their unique needs. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing volleyball, reading, and baking.

What inspired you to get involved with volunteering at Spurwink? What inspired me to get involved with volunteering is the desire to make a tangible difference in a world where we often feel powerless to effect change. Volunteering allows me to move the needle forward, no matter how small the impact. It is my way of living out my values and demonstrating to my community that I am committed to ensuring everyone has access to necessary resources. I am fortunate to work at an organization that believes in supporting volunteerism and encourages us to get involved within our community. It was through that encouragement that I began working with Spurwink.

What do you think makes Spurwink’s mission and efforts so important? Have you ever found yourself thinking, “I don’t know what the solution is,” when faced with challenges like homelessness, substance use disorder, refugee housing, or education for individuals with behavioral challenges? Spurwink is the closest organization I’ve seen to providing answers to these difficult questions. These issues affect all of us, whether personally, through someone we love, or within our broader community. Spurwink works tirelessly and with immense care to find solutions, making a significant impact on the lives of many.

How has working with Spurwink impacted you? Personally, it has made me a more engaged and aware member of my community by keeping me connected with the challenges we face. Professionally, Spurwink has enhanced my skills in collaboration, leadership, and community engagement.

What have you found to be your most rewarding experience as a volunteer with Spurwink? My most rewarding experience as a volunteer with Spurwink has been the opportunity to serve as a connector. Over the years, I’ve had several instances where I partnered with other community volunteers and organizations to share the valuable resources Spurwink offers. This collaboration has significantly supported people in need. Additionally, I’ve been able to connect for-profit organizations with Spurwink, helping to bolster their important work and extend their impact.

What is your advice to someone considering volunteering at Spurwink but may be unsure? You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

What is your favorite quality about yourself? I am resilient. Nothing can keep me down for more than a moment.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? First, my father once told me, “Just because it’s not now, doesn’t mean it’s never.” This wisdom has been a guiding light through the past decade, teaching me resilience in the face of disappointment, rejection, and heartbreak. It reminds me that setbacks are not permanent, and that perseverance will eventually lead to success.

Second, my professional mentor advised me to “Be easy to work with.” While this may seem straightforward, it profoundly impacted how I approach my work and interactions. It emphasizes the importance of considering how my actions and attitude affect those around me. It’s not just about completing tasks but doing so with earnestness, building trust, and fostering respect along the way.

What is your favorite comfort meal? Chicken Pho and dumplings

Go-to karaoke song? Vienna by Billy Joel
