2019 Humanitarian Awards

On Friday, October 25th, Spurwink’s Humanitarian will welcome 450 guests in celebration of Spurwink’s impact, its increasing of access to critical behavioral health needs, and honoring of community leaders who make Maine a healthier place to live and work. You’ll enjoy fabulous food from Bread & Butter, signature cocktails, exclusive auction items, and a festive atmosphere at Thompson’s Point. The event will feature “Shine Points” which spotlight the work of three of Spurwink’s programs, Opioid Recovery, Foster Care and Anti-Youth Human Trafficking.

Humanitarian Award: Chief Janine Roberts, Westbrook Chief of Police

Chief Roberts was chosen as Spurwink’s Humanitarian for 2019 as her leadership and commitment to community collaboration strongly align with Spurwink’s vision that our clients lead healthy, engaged lives in their communities. Under her leadership the Westbrook Police department has partnered with several projects that serve Spurwink clients, including the Cumberland County Children’s Advocacy Center (CCCAC). “The Westbrook Police Department’s relationship with CCCAC is the foundation of our success in serving the most vulnerable of victims—children—ensuring they receive the emotional and physical support from experts, while collecting the information and evidence needed to prosecute those who victimize them. The work the CCCAC and its community partners do is truly incredible. The connections, resources, and relationships created through this collaboration provide a network that focuses on the basic needs of the children.” Chief Roberts, acknowledges the work of detective, Dan Violette, who is heavily involved with the Cumberland County Children’s Advocacy Center, including sitting on their board.

Chief Roberts began her career in 1985 and served 29 years with the Portland, Maine Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant. In 2014, she was sworn in as the Chief of Police for the Westbrook, Maine Police Department. Chief Roberts holds an associate degree in Law Enforcement Technology and is a graduate of the #240th Session of F.B.I. National Academy. In addition to this formal education, the Chief’s educational background is based on hundreds of hours of hands-on training focused on leadership, communication, and administrative responsibilities.

Throughout her career, Chief Roberts has committed herself to community policing, striving to create, maintain, and enhance relationships and trust with all members of the communities she serves. Her reputation of being honest and straightforward with her actions backing up her words is the foundation for her success and the success of her team; her department.

Corporate Care Award: The Boulos Company/Boulos Asset Management


The Boulos Company and Boulos Asset Management were chosen for Spurwink’s 2019 Corporate Care Award for their commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts across Maine.
