On Sunday, September 12th at 5:30 in the morning, volunteers gathered in a brisk and quiet Payson Park with the kind of excitement only volunteers can muster in the dark early hours of a weekend morning. Volunteers chatted and sipped coffee between setting up tables and organizing registration forms, and the brilliant red and orange sunrise painted itself across the sky. The Portland 10 Miler would begin in just a few short hours, and the starting line would soon be filled with hundreds of runners, family, and friends.
For that moment, that day, and for the whole event, we have so much to be grateful for. Spurwink is grateful to have once again been the charitable beneficiary for the Portland 10 Miler road race, produced by Gray Matter Marketing.
We are grateful for the 60+ volunteers who joined us: from pre-registering volunteers at Rising Tide Brewery, to hydrating athletes at the water stops…and from cheering and ensuring runner safety along the course, to celebrating and passing out awards until the last runner crossed the finish line.
We are grateful for everyone who came out to make this a wonderful event, filled with joy and accomplishment, and advocacy for those with mental and behavioral health needs. THANK YOU, for going the distance.
