“The Humanitarian event was a celebration of the incredible individuals whose vision and generosity have helped Spurwink grow and thrive. Leading this effort alongside passionate volunteers was a privilege—and a reminder that together, we can continue to build a stronger, more compassionate Maine.” -Ashley Boyle, Humanitarian Committee Chair and Development Committee Volunteer
A dedicated group of volunteers in partnership with staff created an enchanting evening for over 300 guests on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, as we celebrated our past 38 years of the annual Awards event, The Humanitarian. It was a memorable evening where we honored our past Humanitarians and their families who have invested their time, talent, and resources to make our state a healthier place to live and work.
The program was once again emceed by Chris Costa and showcased the relevance and continued need for Spurwink services. It featured a video about Spurwink’s Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program, sharing the LeClair family’s experience. Showing how, through dedicated support and compassion, their son has and continues to build an engaged, connected, and meaningful life. View the video here.
Thanks to the generosity of attendees and a lively auction and paddle raise led by our loyal auctioneer, Mike Carey, together we raised $200,000 to expand access to mental healthcare. We are grateful to all our auction donors, Corporate Partners, host committee members, vendors, and volunteers who make this evening a success. Ashley said it best, “I was honored to chair this year’s Humanitarian—a night filled with purpose, celebration, and heart. The ‘Enchanted Forest’ theme beautifully reflected the quiet magic at the core of Spurwink’s mission: the transformative power of care, compassion, and community. I’m deeply grateful to the volunteers, staff, supporters, and Humanitarians who make this work not only possible, but extraordinary.”
We look forward to our future engagement event, which will be in the Spring of 2026 and will continue to bring our community together focusing on the critical work being done at Spurwink. It may look a bit different, but we promise it will be full of life, energy, and wonderful people!
