Each June, dedicated Spurwink staff put together a prom for our students who attend one of our three special education schools. We strive to ensure that each teenager can experience typical high school experiences despite their induvial challenges. This year’s prom theme was Glow, and staff and volunteers transformed Spurwink’s training room to create an incredible prom experience for the students, including a “glowing” dance floor. Staff and volunteers made low-sensory break rooms for students who may get overstimulated and need a break during the festivities. Visual menus allowed non-verbal students to order dinner. Thanks to the generosity of Brickyard Hollow and Portland Pie Company, delicious pizza was served. The kids had an unforgettable evening engaging with their classmates outside of school. We are grateful to the following staff members who go above and beyond each year to make a unique experience for the students, Kira Deveau, Kim Foster, Kathy Manson, and Jill Watrous. And a special thank you to the following volunteers whose decorating skills transformed the space, Carrie Cianchette, Valerie Gifford, Katie Holmes, and Erin McAllister.
