OVERVIEW

At Spurwink, evidence-based practices, or EBP, are the foundation of the clinical work we perform. It is an approach to how we treat and provide services to clients. This approach includes important components:

  1. Learning what treatments “work” based on the best available research
  2. Obtaining the skills, techniques and strategies that influence positive results
  3. Understanding and honoring the clients’ views toward treatment
  4. Taking into account cultural and other differences

HOW DO EBP BENEFIT CLIENTS

  1. When Evidence-based Practices are used, clients are assured that they are receiving the best service possible
  2. The clinicians supervising or providing care are up-to-date on new treatments or interventions

At Spurwink, services are tailored to the unique circumstances of each individual, family or community. For more information about Evidence-based Practices or community programs call 207-871-1200.

As evidence-based practitioners, we apply best practices in the programs and services we provide. At Spurwink we also develop models and programs using a variety of evidence-based practices. Teaching becomes more purposeful, direct instruction becomes more effective, and students thrive with expanded support.

BARR helps educators better connect with their students and address the issues that cause students to fail courses, drop out, and/or engage in harmful behavior. The result: significant improvements in course credits earned, grade point averages, and standardized test scores; decreases in failure rates, suspensions, and absenteeism; and improved job satisfaction among teachers.

The model’s eight interconnected strategies are grounded in research about what works in education. They provides a comprehensive structure that helps educators build safe, strong, trusting relationships with their students — and these connections pave the way for every student to engage in learning. The BARR Model works with a school’s existing curriculum and existing staff, and it can be used to attain any specific school goals.
