The Scarborough Rotary is dedicated to their community and passionate about service, and recently they made an impact with Spurwink clients and their families in Scarborough. Though a bike and a little back to school shopping, they helped bring smiles to Spurwink clients and were able to take a little worry off the plates of two families.
A bike needing repair
Every parent of a teenager is proud when their child works hard and earns money through a summer job. Unfortunately, worry started to set in as the bike their son was riding to and from his summer job was continually breaking down because of a broken chain. The parents, due to their own jobs, could not provide transportation for their son. And because their resources were stretched thin, they could not afford to fix the bike themselves. Learning of the situation, the Scarborough Rotary Club was able to facilitate fixing the bike and get it road worthy again with the help of Rogers Ski and Sport.
Heading back to school
Going back to school, often means back to school shopping. Yet, for some families that is not a reality. Fitting in, especially as a teenager, is not easy. In a district where most families can afford a new outfit and school supplies, those who cannot stand out. The Scarborough Rotary Club provided a special “back to school” shopping trip for one family, resulting in new sneakers, clothes, and school supplies. Thanks to their support, this family has a little more confidence heading into the new school year!
Spurwink is grateful for the Scarborough Rotary Club’s support and partnership. Their commitment is making an impact in their local community.
