Once again, our community rose to the challenge and raised $38,016 in response to our $25,000 matching gift this annual appeal season. We are grateful for the response that fuels our mission to respond to community needs and provide behavioral health care, substance use disorder services, and support services for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. 
 
GRANTS IN ACTION

Spurwink Next Gen Nonprofit Leadership Program & Paid Internship Opportunities
Spurwink has received a grant from the Abbagadassett Foundation to launch Next Gen, a Nonprofit Leadership Program that will offer paid internship opportunities for college students focused on nonprofit leadership and mental health in Maine.

Meet Jen Shumway, CSEC Case Coordinator
Meet Jen Shumway, LMSW-cc, Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) Case Coordinator. Jen has been with Spurwink for over five years, starting out as a family advocate at the Cumberland County Children's Advocacy Center (CCCAC), then moving to her current role a few months later.

National Slavery & Human Trafficking Prevention Month
January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention month, which provides an opportunity to shine a light on this prevalent problem and the response that the Cumberland County Children’s Advocacy Center (CCCAC) at Spurwink is providing for youth that experience this form of victimization. 

 

Announcing Promotions of Two Long-Time Spurwink Employees
We are pleased to announce two recent promotions for long-time employees Nora Morse and Joyce Wientzen. Nora Morse, LCSW,  is moving into a newly developed role of Director of Best Practices. Joyce Wientzen, LCSW, is moving into the role of Senior Director of Child Welfare Programs, also newly developed.

 

Families Making a Difference Through Fostering
Spurwink's Treatment Foster Care program recently had an article included in Parent & Family Magazine about fostering and ways to help if fostering isn't an option. You can read the article on page 10 of the January/February 2024 issue.
