Sharing Bright Lights of Inspiration
The pandemic has shined a spotlight on the importance of behavioral health and educational services. The needs are great and the work is hard, but through it all there are moments of hope and inspiration. Here are a few highlights that keep our batteries charged!

Share Your Heart for A Family For ME
November is National Adoption Month and A Family for ME (AFFME) asks you to join in celebrating! Post images of hearts on your Facebook or Instagram page and tag AFFME (#afamilyformeMaine, #shareyourheartforme). AFFME is a partnership between the DHHS and Spurwink, with the focus of raising awareness of the urgent need and finding Maine families who are willing and able to parent children in foster care.
HOW TO SUPPORT OUR MISSION

Join a National Movement! Giving Tuesday is Dec. 1, 2020
Spurwink will once again be participating in Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to do good! Support Spurwink by donating online, sharing our Facebook posts, or forward our email to friends!

"Adopt" a Family or Individual for the Holidays!
The holidays are fast approaching and we are looking for individuals to adopt a child or family served by Spurwink who could use some extra holiday cheer. Your involvement not only brings joy to a child, but helps ease the burden of a parent or caregiver who wants nothing more but to make the holidays a little more bright for a loved one.

GRANTS IN ACTION

Foundation and United Way Funds Support Spurwink Families Affected by COVID-19
As we celebrate Thanksgiving in different ways this year due to the pandemic, we are incredibly thankful for the support of foundations and United Ways to help Maine people continue to access behavioral health care and meet their basic needs. We are grateful for a recent grant from the Sam L. Cohen Foundation that will allow us to continue providing mental health care and meeting the basic needs of youth and their families in Cumberland and York Counties.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PEOPLE

Meet Karen Lynn Keefe, Senior Program Manager of the Adult Program
Meet Karen Lynn Keefe, who has been in her field for 18 years. She was previously with Community Partners, Inc., which then merged with Spurwink in 2018. When she's not at work, you can find Karen going on adventures, volunteering for her daughter's sports booster, or at a Pats game (as a proud season ticket holder!).

A complete list of artworks and pricing will be available online at elizabethmossgalleries.com in December. Call the Gallery at (207) 781-2620 for details. Spurwink is grateful to Liz Moss and Eva Goetz for supporting its mission in this way!

Donor Spotlight: Rita LaBarbera
Rita is our Program Director in Cornville. When asked why she donates, she replied "It is simple. It's the right thing to do. Giving back to the agency helps Spurwink give to someone else. It's an example of paying it forward. Our collective effort to help families, kids, adults, and our communities is one of the reasons there is a Spurwink."
