THE SPURWINKIAN BI-MONTHLY NEWSLETTER: JULY 2020
GOING THE DISTANCE FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CARE IN MAINE

As the world has paused and shifted these last few months, Spurwink also has paused to reflect on how our core values and mission can benefit our community during this time of need. We are excited to resume publishing the Spurwinkian newsletter this month. Meanwhile, we have published resources on our website such as managing stress, self-care, telehealth, talking to children, that we hope you will find helpful.

Ease the transition to summer: Top 10 tips for children with ASD
With warmer weather approaching we’re reminded of the beautiful summer days ahead of us in Maine. For some children with special needs, particularly some children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), time away from the structure and routine of the school day (or homeschool day) can be dysregulating. We've put together a list of tips as we ease into summer.

Congrats Glickman & Chelsea graduates of 2020!
Graduation went a little differently this year for 2020 graduates of Glickman Academy and Chelsea. Given the challenges of COVID-19 and gathering, Glickman held their graduation ceremony in Spurwink’s main admin building’s parking lot, and Chelsea held individual graduation ceremonies.

Spurwink receives two awards from Fedcap
Earlier this year, Spurwink HR Recruiter Chris St. Louis received the Employer Partner and Community Partner Awards from Biddeford Fedcap. Fedcap’s mission is create opportunities for people with barriers to economic well-being. Pictured is Chris St. Louis and Sianeh Omeze.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT

Donor Spotlight: Isabel Berman
Isabel was recognized as the 2020 Prudential Spirit of Community Award State Honoree. This award included a donation to the charity of her choice and Isabel chose Spurwink! Over the years Isabel has raised money for Spurwink by creative means, including running Beach to Beacon. We are grateful for Isabel's continued support.

Your donations = therapeutic artwork
Thanks to our community for stepping in when we asked for help getting donations to create therapy kits for our clients. These kits can help clients during telehealth sessions and are a great way to connect with them. See some of the artwork produced by Spurwink Adult Behavrioral Health clients!
OUT & ABOUT

Spurwink is Proud
This year's Pride Parade in Portland may have been canceled, but that doesn't dampen our support! Pride Portland! brings people in the Greater Portland, Maine area together for an annual parade and festival to celebrate and honor the accomplishments of the LGBTQ+ movement, raise awareness of the community’s ongoing struggles, and foster an environment of inclusivity, accessibility and solidarity. We hope to join you safely next year!
