ShifaME Presents Trauma Systems Therapy for Refugees at the Annual Child Development and Behavior Conference
Representatives from Spurwink’s ShifaME program recently had the opportunity to introduce a large audience to Trauma Systems Therapy adapted for Refugees (TSTR). Sarah Ferriss, Director of Refugee Services, Heidi Harrison, Associate Director of Refugee Services, and Siad Shaleh, Cultural Broker, presented at the Annual Child Development and Behavior Conference hosted by the Edmund N. Ervin Pediatric Center at Colby College. The audience consisted largely of medical and mental health professionals with the focus of the event being Evidence Based Practices serving vulnerable youth.
Meet Dan Hibbs, Senior Program Director
Dan Hibbs, LCSW, is a Senior Program Director with Spurwink and has been affiliated with Spurwink since June, 1977. When he’s not busy in the residential world of Spurwink, he can be found enjoying the company of others, spending time with his family and friends, and cooking.
Eat at Flatbread Company + Support Foster Care
Join us on Tuesday, August 27th at Flatbread Company in the Old Port for a fundraiser for the Southern Maine Foster Family Recruitment Team. From 5-9pm, a portion of all pizza and food sales (eat-in or take-out) that night will benefit this collaboration to find and support foster homes. There will also be a chance to enter a a 50/50 raffle! 
What’s Going on in Biddeford? Music on Main Street!
Have you had a chance to catch a free lunchtime concert in downtown Biddeford yet? Music on Main Street, hosted by Biddeford Savings, is offering concerts in the park adjacent to the bank at 254 Main Street in Biddeford on Thursdays from 11:30am-1pm through August 8th.

In addition, you can enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch for just a $5 donation. 100% of the lunch proceeds benefit five local charities. Biddeford Food Pantry, Bon Appetit Meal Program, Community Bicycle Center, Seeds of Hope Neighborhood Center, and Spurwink Services!
Celebrating Coffee By Design’s 25th Anniversary
Spurwink’s Treatment Foster Care team and A Family for ME recently represented Spurwink at Coffee By Design’s 25th anniversary party at Diamond Street in Portland. They celebrated with music, drummers, a typewriter poet, gelato, and of course coffee! 

In celebration of their 25th, CBD made a special anniversary drink called the Tempest and the Rock. A portion of each of those drinks sold during June and July have gone to their B the Change nonprofits, in which Spurwink was included.

On Friday, October 25th, Spurwink’s Humanitarian Awards Gala will welcome 450 guests in celebration of Spurwink’s impact, its increasing of access to critical behavioral health needs, and honoring of community leaders who make Maine a healthier place to live and work. You’ll enjoy fabulous food from Bread & Butter, signature cocktails, exclusive auction items, and a festive atmosphere at Thompson’s Point.
