My Covid Blues: One employee's inspiring song about overcoming Covid
Recently, one of Spurwink's frontline workers, Paul Hopkins, "received the gift of COVID (the gift that keeps on giving)," as he stated, for his 70th birthday. Spending nearly a month in the hospital, he wrote this song, and after recovering and getting healthy enough, he was able to record with Dave Seeley (guitar) and Tony Landsperg (keyboard).

Proud to support new Wellness Shelter
Spurwink is delighted that the Portland Planning Board  voted unanimously in support of the Conditional Use Application to open a new, permanent 24/7 40 bed Wellness Shelter, and happy to show support of this much needed shelter.

January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month
January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, which provides an opportunity to shine a light on this prevalent problem and the response that the Cumberland County Children's Advocacy Center (CCCAC) at Spurwink is providing for youth that experience this form of victimization.
OUT & ABOUT

Save the Date for the 2021 Humanitarian Online Gala
This year our annual Humanitarian of the Year event will look a little different than it has in the past. We plan to celebrate the incredible work of our community virtually this year. Please join us on Wednesday, April 7th, in celebration of Spurwink’s impact, its increasing of access to critical behavioral health needs, and honoring of community leaders who make Maine a healthier place to live and work. This year we will honor our 2021 Humanitarian, Cullen Ryan, who has dedicated his professional career to serving homeless and special needs populations. We will also be honoring Spurwink’s frontline workers who have worked tirelessly during the pandemic. Come Bloom with us!
GRANTS IN ACTION

Foundation and United Way funds support Spurwink families affected by COVID-19
The start of a new year sees the recommitment of funding to support children, youth, and families with behavioral health directly impacted by COVID-19 and increase Spurwink’s IT capacity to meet those needs through telehealth.
