Clinicians with the Maine Caring Families Program

Maine Caring Families

Part of a statewide system of care, the Maine Caring Families Program provides clinical case management services to children who have mild to moderate behavioral difficulties and are living in therapeutic foster homes. This program is designed to help children who are in state custody achieve emotional and physical well-being.

Maine Caring Families is a public/private partnership between the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Spurwink Services. DHHS employs Regional Coordinators who are responsible for the implementation and management of the program within their geographical areas. Clinical Case Managers, employed by Spurwink, are responsible for the coordination of services for the foster children and support of the foster parents. Our Case Managers provide support and advice to help therapeutic foster parents manage difficult behavior. These supports include weekly home visits, foster parent support groups, an Individualized Service Plan (ISP) for the child, advocacy, and coordination of outside services.

"The support workers possess a multitude of resources which they use to advocate for the
foster parents. They are organized, skillful, and adept at what they
do. We have been foster parents and therapeutic foster parents, and as
long as we continue to foster children, it will be therapeutically,
because of the support our MCF worker provides to our family."
