Residential Treatment
Upon arrival at Cornville Staff Secure, youth reside in the six-bed Admitting Unit which utilizes an enhanced staffing pattern. Following stabilization and a consistent demonstration of the ability to practice safe behaviors and follow directions, clients typically move to one of the two residential homes on campus or to a nearby Spurwink community-based residence. These family-style homes are staffed by Therapeutic Couples, a unique staffing model at Spurwink. Therapeutic Couples offer consistent care and treatment, and enhance and solidify the stabilization achieved on the Admitting Unit. The “family like” couple model and neighborhood environment prepares clients for transitioning to alternative living situations.
This program is designed to: provide a structured environment that allows for healthy adjustment and growth experiences; provide in-depth assessments including speech-language, occupational therapy, psychiatric and educational: and enhance the skills necessary to live in a cooperative family/group situation.
The over-riding approach at Cornville Staff Secure is to provide a unique, individualized experience to allow for the development of healthy, positive behaviors and the understanding of responsibilities. This focus helps children build self-esteem and trust. Integral to this approach is an activity-based environment that meets the varied needs and interests of the residents.
